The second annual installation of Skopje Wine Salon – Vinodonia is happening on 1-2 December 2017, at Skopje Marriott Hotel. This year’s program includes master classes on the wines from three juggernauts: Chateau Kamnik Winery, Stobi Winery, and Tikveš Winery. These three wineries are also our top three favorite wineries in Macedonia. Here’s an introduction to these three Macedonian wineries that you shouldn’t miss—both at the event and when traveling in Macedonia. All three wineries also export wines to parts of the USA.

Chateau Kamnik Winery: The Collectible Wines of Macedonia

Founded in 2004, Chateau Kamnik has grown to become the leading brand of Macedonian wine. The Chateau Kamnik estate is in the Vardar River Valley, just outside the city of Skopje. The property consists of a winery, 15 hectares of vineyards, a hotel, and a restaurant called The Hunter’s Lodge Kamnik. The vines are planted at more than 300 meters in elevation.

Stobi Winery: The Best Wines at the Best Prices

Located in Gradsko, next to the ancient city of Stobi, Stobi Winery was established in 2009. The winery produces around 4.5 million bottles every year and maintains good quality across the board, along with a few outstanding bottlings. The portfolio is segmented into four categories: premium, classic, elite, and traditional. The vineyards are located in the Tikveš wine region.

Tikveš Winery: From Big to Classy

Established in 1885 and boasting an annual production size of 20 million liters, Tikveš Winery is the oldest and largest winery in Macedonia and Southeast Europe. The winery owns about 1,000 hectares of vineyards and also purchase grapes from other growers. In 2010, the winery started releasing premium, single-vineyard wines. The winery offers a wine-pairing set lunch, which we did not participate.
