💰Can cheap wines be good?
🥂 I went to the supermarket and chose three wines, all under 5.50 USD. See if they performed well in the latest video.

🍇 I'm a Sangiovese nut, plain and simple.
🇮🇹 The wines of Salcheto are a fantastic expression of the grape. They farm organically, recycle rainwater, and even package their wines in lightweight glass bottles. If you’re looking for delicious wines, their ‘Vino Nobile di Montepulciano’ normale (QPR Alert) and ‘Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva’ are fabulous wines. They are similar in flavor but the Riserva has slightly more tannin and structure - thankfully not more wood!
🍷 The jewel in this collection is the ’Vecchie Viti Del Salco’. It’s a single vineyard wine made from old vines. While the two aforementioned wines are on the fruity side, the ‘Vecchie Viti Del Salco’ is more of a savory wine with its layers of leather and tobacco which comes before the fruit. It’s a serious red with plenty of Tuscan flair.

👋 If you want to drink adventurously, it's time to give Hárslevelű a try.
🇭🇺 Hárslevelű is a Hungarian variety that is one of the key components in sweet Tokaji. It often takes a backseat to Furmint but is also capable of producing delicious dry varietal wines too.
🥂 Three of my favorite producers of dry Hárslevelű come from Tokaj. @tokajkikeletpince is founded by a French woman and produces four separate bottlings. My favorites are her 'Kassai' and 'Lonyai' bottlings. Think ginger, yellow flower, and plenty of yellow peach flavors along with the signature fiery acidity that comes with Tokaj.
🥂 @orsolyakattila is one of Hungary's cult producers and his wines are difficult to locate. He's a magician with barrel fermentation and his Grand Cru is 100% Hárslevelű. It's a full-bodied beauty with plenty of white fruit and flinty notes. The wood is integrated perfectly and the wine is multi-layered with a long finish.
🥂 @pajzostokaj is known for sweet wines (their 1999 Eszencia recieved 100 pts in Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate) but their dry wines are nothing to scoff at. Their Hárslevelű Dry Selection is a spicy, barrel-aged white that comes in at around 11 USD. It's a wine that punches way above its price point and shows its best with a few years in the bottle.
